Shoppers Drug Mart Bells Corners – Power of Pink makeover Event benefiting The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
May 3rd, 2014, Shoppers Drug Mart Bells Corners hosted a Great Power of Pink makeover Event with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation this past Saturday.
With the outstanding support of members of the community, local businesses, politicians and the dedicated staff members of Peter Barreiro’s Bells Corners Shoppers Drug Mart team, the first makeover event dedicated to raise awareness and support for the fight against breast cancer was hosted by Associate owner Peter Barreiro and Beauty Boutique Manager, Kena Li.
During the Power of Pink makeover event, CBC NEWS interviewed Shoppers Drug Mart’s Senior Vice President of Operations Nicolas Caprio, who was out touring stores the day of the event. He told the media that Shoppers Drug Mart recognizes the implications of breast cancer on the lives and families of Canadians nation-wide. With 1 in every 9 women being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, it is no wonder that the majority of Canadians will face this challenge alongside their mothers, sisters, wives and friends. We decided to host a national event in all our stores across Canada benefiting both the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as well as Look Good Feel Better with all of Ontario’s proceeds to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson was in attendance and spoke highly of the event and all the great work that has been done, and will be done in the future with Shoppers Drug Mart in local communities.
Mayor Jim Watson also commented on the fact that, “everybody should be aware of breast cancer, check it on time and treat it on time”. He was also quoted saying “Shoppers Drug Mart Bells Corners is a great stage for sharing information and raising awareness, not simply just a lovely place to shop”.
During the speech, MPP Lisa Macleod said: “it is amazing that a community store like Shoppers Drug Mart Bells Corners is more than just that. Associate Owner Peter Barreiro and his team really make a difference in the community, to make people realize that Shoppers Drug Mart not only gives your prescriptions, cosmetic products and food, but also really care and give back to the community whenever and to whomever needs help.”
Last but not least, Nepean-Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre’s Executive Assistant Andy Wang passed a certificate from MP Pierre Poilievre’s office to Peter Barreiro, to thank his store and staff for such an outstanding community event.
“This is our pleasure to pass along the message and positive energy to the community, we are not just a community store, this store delivers care through beauty, health, convenience and positive energy on a daily basis for its community members. Thanks to all that came out to support our event, local business, store staff, our Central office, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, MPP Lisa Macleod, Nepean-Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre’s Executive Assistant Andy Wang, Previous Owner and Publisher Renren Bai, News stations from CBC Quebec, Canada Chinese News and all who participated in the success of our makeover event at Shoppers Drug Mart Bells Corners. With your support we were able to raise $37,294 in Ottawa region through event ticket sales, silent auctions and donations, with all proceeds going towards the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Ontario Region.”

Bells Corners’ Shoppers Drug Mart took the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported this location since its beginning – makeovers by Stila Cosmetics Team and Clarins Group were provided to ticket holders, as well as nail polish application with Essie Nail Polish and Ceramic Glaze. Local businesses including Starbucks on Robertson Road, Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana Pastry shop, and the new Chow Down Asian Cuisine Food Truck all provided delicious refreshments for the occasion.
We look forward to many more events like this in support of our community.
